Demon's Souls - Epitaph for Boletaria

roetaka:

This is a Demon’s Souls remix I did just before Christmas. It is kind of a medley that uses the music ‘The Beginning’, ‘Maiden in Black’ and ‘Return to Slumber’. I think the music in Demon’s Souls is really stunning, it’s so pure and makes such an impression. It has this feeling of Japanese horror and fantasy but still manages to be emotional and provoking. It doesn’t jump out at you trying to be instantly dark and foreboding, it builds and pulls you in. ‘Maiden in Black’ is one of those pieces of music that makes me think about silence used in music, it’s so well paced, it’s not even just the confidence to be silent, it understands its place. I wanted to celebrate this music of Demon’s Souls without treading on the soundtrack, and enjoy it as an emotional and engaging song.

This remix took me a day to make, I don’t say that in such a way to boast but because it felt like a marriage. I’ve wanted to remix this for some time but on that particular day I just opened up my sequencer and it just started to happen. It’s those songs that seem to come from nowhere that make the most impression, and as a listener sometimes you can just hear that.

Demon’s Souls is a brilliant creation that understands what it is more so than most games and I think that’s why we get it.
